What the Tests Access

Each test reads only the device it tests, only while the page is open, and only to show you the result:

• Microphone: with your permission, the mic test listens live to show your level, lists your microphones by name so you can pick one, and records a short clip into the page’s memory for playback. Nothing is uploaded, and the clip is gone when you close or reload the page.
• Camera: with your permission, the webcam test and the webcam resolution test show your camera’s picture live and measure its brightness, resolution and frame rate, all inside the page. The resolution test asks the camera for each size in turn, then sets it back. Nothing is recorded, uploaded or saved, and the camera turns off when you close the page.
• Speakers: the speaker test plays sounds your browser generates. It does not listen to anything.
• Keyboard and mouse: keys, clicks and scrolls on the test page are read to find faults. They are not logged or sent anywhere, so do not worry about typing on the keyboard tester.
• Controllers: the stick drift test reads stick and button positions through your browser.
• Screen: display tests read your screen size and refresh timing, and may go full screen.

Permissions are granted through your browser. You can withdraw them at any time in your browser’s site settings.

Results and Share Cards

Results are calculated on your device. A share card is an image created in your browser and saved to your device. It is only shared if you choose to post it.

What We Collect

We do not collect names, email addresses or anything else that identifies you directly, unless you send them to us through the contact form.

Like any website, our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. They are used only to keep the site running and secure, on the basis of our legitimate interest in doing so, are kept only as long as the host needs them, and are not used to identify you.

Contact Form

The contact form on the About page is a Google Form. It asks for your name, your email address, what your message is about and the message itself. Google stores what you send on our behalf, under the same safeguards described for Google Analytics below.

We use it only to answer you and to improve the site, never for marketing. The legal basis is your request: nothing is sent unless you submit the form. We delete a message once it is dealt with and no longer needed, or sooner if you ask.

Google may offer to sign you in to save your progress. Signing in is optional, and Google’s own privacy policy covers your Google account.

Analytics and Cookies

We use Google Analytics 4, a Google service, to learn how the site is used. It records the pages you visit and how you move through them, the page that sent you, and general details such as your browser, device type and approximate location. It never receives anything a test reads from your devices, such as sound, keystrokes, clicks or controller input, nor any test result.

Google Analytics sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_<ID>, to recognize your browser when you come back. They last up to 13 months. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, they are set only after you accept them. Elsewhere, they are set unless you decline.

Your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage for 12 months, so you are not asked on every page. You can change it at any time with the Cookie Settings link at the bottom of every page. Declining removes the analytics cookies.

Without your consent, the site still sends Google Analytics signals without cookies, such as that a page was viewed, with no identifier that links them to you or to each other. Google uses them to estimate overall traffic.

The legal basis is your consent where the law requires it, and otherwise our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the site. Google processes this data on our behalf and may transfer it outside your country, including to the United States, under its own safeguards. Advertising

The site does not show ads. If we add them in the future, for example Google AdSense, we will update this policy before they go live and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR or CCPA give you the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, and to withdraw your consent at any time. We cannot link analytics data to your name, so there is usually nothing we can return, but you can contact us with any request and we will answer it.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
