Webcam Tests

See your camera live, find out why the picture is black, frozen, choppy or too dark, and how sharp it can get.

Full Webcam Checkup

Run both tests in order. Each result links straight to the next one.

Which Test Do You Need?

Picture black, frozen or choppy? The webcam test shows your camera live and checks its picture, frame rate and lighting.

Picture soft, or choppy only at full size? The webcam resolution test finds the highest resolution your camera sends and its frame rate at each size.

Checking a Webcam Before a Call

Start with the webcam test: if you see yourself, the camera works, and it tells you when the picture is choppy or too dark.

Then run the webcam resolution test to find the sharpest size your camera keeps smooth, and choose that size in your video app.

Light matters more than the camera: face a window or a lamp, keep bright light out from behind you and wipe the lens. A cheap webcam in good light looks better than an expensive one in the dark.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I test my webcam before a meeting?

Open the webcam test to see yourself live and check the picture, then the resolution test to see how sharp it gets. Both run in the browser with nothing to install, and nothing is recorded.

Is a 1080p webcam worth it over 720p?

For calls, often only a little: many video apps send 720p unless you turn on HD. 1080p pays off when you record, stream or present in a large window. Good light improves either one more than extra pixels do.

Can I test a webcam without installing anything?

Yes. Both tests run in your browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, Android and iPhone. Allow camera access when the browser asks; the picture never leaves the page.
